TRAVEL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The MA board is committed to helping its members to take advantage of the unique Unalaska Conference opportunity through travel scholarships. Our goal is to help equalize Unalaska travel with normal meeting costs. This initiative is made possible by generous sponsors, income from last year's meeting with WMA, and some targeted budget trimming.

Applications (including attachments to be e-mailed separately) must be received electronically on or before June 28, 2009. Scholarship applicants will be notified of awards and award amounts no later than July 15 (allowing recipients to make early bookings and qualify for airline/lodging discounts).

Please review the application form carefully, and pay special attention to the requirements. When filling out the application, please provide complete numbers for your budget, and give comprehensive answers to the questions. Awards are made on the basis of demonstrated need and merit. It’s a competitive process; neatness, clarity, and concise —yet substantial—answers count!

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must be current members of Museums Alaska (length of membership is a positive factor).
  • Individual members and institutional members are eligible, but only one application per institutional member can be accepted.
  • Eligible expenses include transportation costs to/from the conference, housing, per diem, and/or registration fees. Car rental during the conference is not eligible.
  • Use of airline companion fares and other sharing of resources (roommate, etc) are positive factors.
  • Recipients must attend the entire meeting, September 16-19. For all applicants, attendance at pre-conference workshops and events is optional, but may be included in the costs to be covered in the scholarship application. Attendees primarily attending Museums Alaska sessions will be given preference.
  • Funds are limited, and partial awards may be given.
  • Awards will be based on demonstrated need and merit. Applicants will also be considered for the Donna Matthews Scholarship, a discretionary award of the Museums Alaska Board of Directors.
  • Following the conference, recipients must write an article for the Network due no later than November 15, 2009.
  • Recipients must pay expenses up-front, and will be reimbursed upon presentation of receipts. Reimbursement will not be made without receipts.
  • Applications must be received in the Museums Alaska office electronically by June 28, 2009.
